    a bit of advice- yes EVERYTHING an average person can afford is made in china so my advice is ,for this particular thing, go for the 8x option. the 8x12 usually 8x14 in some brands ,gives a more compatible machine. ie u can get the accessories to fit from anywhere and they would be industry standard =easier to fit/work with . like 4 jaw chuck ,milling attachment boring bar setups different quick change tool posts etc. also more likely to get metal change gears. plastic is just crazy. also heavier. that thing moved around /rocked really easy

    I have one of these engines on an old cultivator. Looks like a tiller but is useless as one. I have it in storage but I know the engine is good. I put a diaphragm in it....ah....could be at least 15 years ago lol Anyway it ran then. Everything needs cleaning now. I haven't had a good use for a 3HP. 5 yes. 12 yes. I have two very old 5HP engines, one on my tiller which is older, and runs very well, and the original tiller's engine, still needing some parts, but actually in better condition than its' current replacement. You have to pay a lot these days to get a well made engine like these. Now if they would just make replacement gaskets of Teflon or something that can tolerate alcohol in the fuel....or stop putting alcohol in the damn fuel! They are deliberately ruining our carbs./engines IMO.

      There are Teflon diaphragms for the fuel pump section of carbs, but not for the metering diaphragms, for lawn mowers, or those older 3-5HP carbs.. The rubber just does not like alcohol. I am putting the Teflon ones in my vintage chainsaws from now on.

    I don't know that the length of the throttle linkage, is important enough that you would not want to thin and stretch the metal hammering it. Probably not enough to matter, but making it weaker and more brittle may. If you wanted to, you could get a bit of brass to set on your anvil, and use a brass hammer. This way you straighten with much less denting/thinning/stretching and case hardening of the steel. You could also heat it some and straighten with very gentle hammering, but then you will dent it. If the metal seems brittle after hammering, you can heat it and let it cool slowly, to anneal, soften. Just some thoughts as I was watching you hammer :-)

    How do you heat the painted casings with the flame?

    • @VintageEngineRepairs
      @VintageEngineRepairs День назад

      Same way :) it’s sometimes unavoidable to slightly discolour the hot areas, but unlike using an oven it’s much less so.

      @PopaAlexandru. День назад

      @@VintageEngineRepairs In the case of professional machines with a painted crankcase (e.g. Huski 365), the 'discoloration' when changing the bearings denotes a lack of professionalism - I respected myself as a craftsman and I never allowed myself to work like that regardless of whether the customer noticed or not. Hot air and a little patience is the solution for something like this. Anyway, the expansion we need is found at a temperature of 80-90 degrees Celsius.

    • @VintageEngineRepairs
      @VintageEngineRepairs 19 часов назад

      You won’t get any bearings in without forcing them at 80-90 Celsius on small engines, especially chainsaws. It’s less professional to damage / crack a pocket, crack a case or poor alignment because you didn’t want to risk possible slight discolouration that won’t be seen when everything is back together.

    • @PopaAlexandru.
      @PopaAlexandru. 10 часов назад

      I probably won't be able to because I put it in the past. For motorcycles only. Of course, those have a larger crankcase, greater thermal inertia. The listed ones are also not allowed (damage/misalignment) and discolouration is unprofessional. There are several solutions for the same problem.

    I have a Zama S68 241A carb on a BG86 blower. Ordered some 3x1mm rings but they're too big enough to fit in the bore. I was sure that's the size I needed but it seems not. Very fun. In canada, labour prices (and taxes) exceed buying a new small engine, so no decent shop here could do it. Furthermore from my experience, engineers design these machines to last the life of the bearings-once they go every other part is also expired. Personally, heating that aluminum/mag case would deform or melt it and chances are that the bearing made the pocket/seat to lose. Awesome vid.

    I pretty much follow the steps that you showed here, except never used an air-con for that job. Just on a side note, bearing protrusion in a housing - same for seals, spacers, washers, shafts etc - is something many do not note down when disassembling parts. It is assumed the new bearing will fit in the space, and many do. But there are some which can make a difference and cause things to not fit properly.🐞
